The following is a list of general guidelines that should be followed during a paranormal investigation or ghost hunt.
Be Skeptical:
Don't be quick to believe everything you here.
Do Site Research BEFORE The Investigation:
Learn as much as you can before your visit to the investigation site. This research will give you valuable insight as to how you should proceed.
Always Look For The Natural Explanation:
Be sure to rule out all possible causes for an event before assuming that the activity is paranormal in nature.
Don't Lead Witnesses While Interviewing:
Be careful in how you ask witnesses the questions. Example: Don't ask; what did the ghost look like? Instead ask; what did you see?
Investigate During The Day Light Hours:
If a location is truly haunted by the presence of a spirit, that spirit will be there regardless of the time of day. You are also much less likely to be influenced by common noises and you own imagination during the day light hours.
Use Digital Cameras For Documentation Only:
It has been my experience and the experience of many others that digital cameras used in low light conditions are the cause of many false (digital) orbs. Digital photos are also hard to prove to be authentic while 35mm photos always have a negative for proof.
Take Pictures In Conjunction With Equipment Readings:
A photograph (even a 35mm) is difficult to prove as authentic if there is no corroborating evidence to back it up. When you have equipment readings that indicate the possible presence of paranormal activity, you should take photographs to back up your findings. The capture of a paranormal event on film is much more likely to occur if you take these steps.
Record All Readings Ans Physical Activity In A Log Book:
Record all readings in a log book from the beginning to the end of your investigation. Don't record only those readings that indicate paranormal activity.
Record All Photos Taken:
Keep track of all photographs taken and the reason for the photo.
Reach Conclusions Based On Data:
Do not go into an investigation with pre-drawn conclusions. The previous guidelines of tracking all equipment readings and photo's taken will aid you in reaching sound conclusions. If there is not enough data gathered to reach a conclusion, Don't.
