Woodland Cemetery is located at 118 Woodland Avenue in Dayton, Ohio. The cemetery sits on several small hills near the University of Dayton. Woodland Cemetery was founded in 1841 and is the burial place for the Wright Brothers of aviation fame. Woodland is also the final resting place for sixteen Civil War Veterans.
A good-looking young woman with blonde hair haunts Woodland Cemetery. She is dressed in blue jeans and a sweater with tennis shoes. Often the girl has been seen sitting on a tombstone near the University weeping. This particular tombstone is said to have an eerie glow at night.
In 1989 a student from the University of Dayton decided to investigate the glowing tombstone. He saw a young woman dressed in jeans sitting on the tombstone crying uncontrollably. He thought it best not to approach her because she was so upset. The following day he returned to the grave and the girl was still there dressed in exactly the same clothes. This pattern continued for one more day before the girl disappeared. The student never went back to the cemetery again.
A young boy, Johnny Morehouse, who drowned and his dog that tried to save his life by pulling him from the water also haunt Woodland Cemetery. After the boy's death in the 1860's, his dog refused to leave his gravesite. People began to leave food for the dog and gifts for Johnny. Even to this day people visit Johnny's grave and leave toys for him. Johnny and his dog still roam the cemetery at night continuing their play they were never able to finish
