Punderson State Park
Punderson State Park is located in north eastern Ohio in the town of Newbury. The park consists of a manor house, several lakes, a camping area, golf course, amphitheatre, nature center, and 14 miles of hiking trails. From the intersection of route 44 and route 87 go west for 2 miles to the entrance of the park.
The park appears to be the home for several resident ghosts. Lake Punderson is thought to be haunted by a teenage girl who drowned in the lake in the 1970's. Several different eyewitness accounts describe a young girl covered with seaweed emerging from the lake and walking along the shore only to disappear again into the water.
Another story tells of a group of young girls swimming in the lake one summer day. They were having a contest to see who could hold their breath under water the longest when they heard a female screaming. All of the girls denied screaming and thought no more about it until much later when one of the girls read a story about the drowning in Lake Punderson. Did they here the final screams of a drowning girl?
The lodge at Punderson State Park is called the Manor House. Many paranormal activities have been witnessed over the years in the old section of the manor. The English Tudor-style manor was started in 1929 by Karl Long. Mr. Long lost his fortune in the stock market crash of 1929 and is said to have hung himself in the attic of the Manor House. This could account for one of the ghost stories told about the manor in which three employees witnessed a man hanging from the ceiling in the dining room.
Guests often complain of noise coming from an adjacent room when that room is empty or noise coming from a room above them where no room is located.
