Few absolute answers exist when dealing with the paranormal. The answers below represent one possible explanation to the posed question. We will begin to learn more about the paranormal as our understanding grows through our investigative efforts. 
What are ghosts?
It is commonly believed that a spirit is the soul of a deceased person who had some kind of unfinished business here on earth or who simply refuses to acknowledge the fact that they have died.
It is a scientific fact that the human mind is a conductor of energy and that energy can not be destroyed but only changed to a different form. It is possible that this energy leaves your body upon death and is known as your soul. While your lifeless body is buried your soul "lives" on and in some cases is heard from again in the form of a spirit haunting. Many times the soul or spirit is seen in a shapeless mist or orb (see paranormal dictionary). On rare occasions the spirit takes on a more human look and is sometimes hard to distinguish from a living person. This type of haunting is called an apparition.
Are ghosts real?
This is a difficult question to answer for anyone but let me try my best. Many of the so called "haunted locations" turn out to have a very real and ordinary explanation to the strange activity that was reported. If an explanation is what you are after rather than a "ghost" more than likely you will discover a logical explanation.
There are those cases from all over the world that do not seem to offer that logical explanation and therefore are considered paranormal in nature. Whether these paranormal activities are caused by spirits or some other as yet unexplained phenomena we can not be certain. I have personally witnessed some events that I can not explain, but were these sightings of ghosts, I can't be sure.
Can you prove that ghosts exist?
The short answer to that question is no. Many pieces of evidence have been collected over the years such as photographs, video, and eyewitness statements. All of the paranormal evidence points to the fact that something paranormal is happening but it can not be proven that this paranormal activity is the spirit of a deceased person. It is possible that in the future as evidence mounts that some paranormal investigator will find the "smoking gun" that everyone is looking for.
What time of day is best to find a ghost?
Most people, including many ghost hunters believe that you must search for ghosts late at night during the witching hour. I believe that the witching hour of a truly haunted location occurs twenty four hours a day. If a location is truly haunted or has paranormal energy, that energy will be present regardless of the time of day.
Will a ghost follow me home?
It is possible for a ghost to follow you home but it is very rare for that to happen. No ghost hunter I know has ever had a spirit energy follow them home after an investigation. I have witnessed spirits that did not leave after a séance was conducted at a home. This came some what as a surprise to the homeowners who still have their ghostly visitor to this day. This is a good reason not to conduct a séance in your home.
Are ghosts good or evil?
Spirit energy appears to be much like ordinary people, some are good and some are bad. If a ghost is nothing more than a deceased person's soul it would stand to reason that if the living person was good the spirit energy of that person would also be good. We all know that there are some evil people in the world and when they die we can assume they would not be the friendliest of spirits to bump into. I have witnessed only one case of a spirit energy that felt evil, and that was enough for me.
Why do ghosts appear?
No one knows for sure why ghosts appear or in what form they will appear. Sometimes spirit energy appears as a white glow (orb), a mist, a cold spot, a breeze, or as a full blown figure (apparition). One of my goals as an investigator is to find a pattern for spirit appearances and shapes.
Have you ever seen a ghost?
I have witnessed events that I can't explain with our current scientific knowledge. I can't say for sure if they were ghosts but I can say they were of a paranormal nature meaning there was not a logical scientific explanation for what I witnessed.
Will ghosts hurt you?
Most ghosts are not to be feared by the living. There is always the story of that rare haunting where an individual has been slapped, punched, or tripped. This type of violent paranormal is most often associated not with a ghost but with poltergeist energy.
Do most people believe in ghosts?
The answer to this question is easy, yes most people do believe in the possible existence of ghosts. Recent polls have indicated that over sixty percent of those people polled believe in the possibility that ghosts do exist. Many of these same people had also experienced a paranormal incident in their lifetime. I think that a person of average intelligence and who has an open mind would find it difficult to dismiss the abundance of evidence and witness sightings that have been collected over the years. As with most endeavors there will always be the hardcore skeptics that will never believe until they come face to face with paranormal phenomena.
